Bienvenidos!

Welcome everyone to my Peace Corps blog! Over the course of the next two years this is where I will be sharing my experiences serving as a Youth Development Volunteer with the Peace Corps. A lot of you reading this know it's taken quite a while to get to this point but it's finally official! June 10th I will be in DC for staging (orientation) and the next day I will be on a plane to Lima, Peru! I'm sure you're wondering what exactly a Youth Development Volunteer does. The answer is anything and everything related to improving the condition of disadvantaged youth in Peru. Yes, vague I know. During training Peace Corps staff will be working to find me a specific location and work to do for my actual 2 year service. Once I arrive in Peru I will spend the next 3 months going through intensive language, cross-cultural and skills training. Training will be my full time job for those 3 months and it's pretty intense. Since I've been out of school for a year it's going to be tough working and studying like that again.

I can't believe I have just a little over a month to go and so much to do! So far it's been a slew of paperwork and forms. Next up? Attempting to crack the packing puzzle.

  2. This is amazing! Mucho proud! I think we should probably have a phone date sometime before you leave (if you can squeeze it in!).

  3. You will love Peru! I spent four days in Lima, it was incredible. The food is good, the coffee was great and the people were extremely friendly. There is a bit of western (American) influence as many businesses have offices in Lima. I hope we have a chance to see you before you leave.
Love Uncle Larry & Aunt Betty
